We arrived in Australia by Ozbus and travelled down the middle of the country via the Kakadu National Park, Catherine Gorge, Daly Waters, Alice Springs, Uluru, coober Pedy, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

I have wanted to visit Oz since 1967 when I failed to take up the assisted passage that I'd been granted.  It was in that year that I first discovered an whole new world folk music which was stark relief to the one I was living in:  a world of footaball, dance halls and night clubs.  Having dreamed about the country for so long i was a little worried that I would be dissapointed once there.  The country, the people, the culture were all as I expected and more.  If I was a young man starting out again I wouldn't hesitate to make my way to the country and what I consider to be the best city in the world, Sydney.

After spending two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period in the city we took a further month visiting first the Blue Mountains and then heading down, via Sydney, the east coast, in a Wicked Campervan,  to Melbourne. From there we took the ferry to Tasmania and spent two weeks circumnavigating the island in a hire car, staying hotels and backpackers.  We then headed back to Melbourne before flying out to New Zealand and the last part of our outward journey.
