Kelham Island (Camera Pub of the Year 2009)


Large selection of guest beers from across England to compliment popular regular ones.  Sensible price range £2.00 - £2.40.  Good landlord and bar staff, friendly lively atmosphere with music sessions on Sunday nights. No jukebox etc. Very pleasant garden area for sitting out on warm summer nights and all year round refuge for smokers.

Close by: this area is now the established real ale quarter of Sheffield with many other good beer venues only a few hundred yards away.  Also the entrance to the excellent Kelham Island Museum which is well worth a visit is just a few yards walking distance away.

Well established leader in the provision of good beers - good food at dinner time.  Wide selection of excellent beers to compliment the Kelham Island range which are brewed on the premises.e.g Kelham Island bitter, Pale Rider.  Not to be confused with Kelham Island pub near by.  Friendly atmosphere: first pub in the area to have a no smokers room with roaring open fire in winter.  Good price range: £1.90 - £2.40. Local folk club up stairs first Friday of the month. No jukebox etc.

The Wellington

Another well established hostellery (once the Cask & Cutler) just a few hundred yards away from the Kelham contingents.  Excellent selection of good micro beers along with ones brewed on the premises.  Friendly staff, good atmosphere: serious drinkers pub.  Ideally situated on the Sheffield supertram network. No jukebox etc.

The Blake Hotel

Victorian pub completely restored.  Good selection of beers at sensible prices.  Friendly staff and locals.  No music to interupt conversation and a large outside decked area.


Hillsborough Hotel

Fine Victorial pub now converted into a three star hotel with a good selection of beers from afar to compliment ones brewed (Crown Brewery) on the premises: Hillsborough Pale Ale,  Good food till early evening. Very friendly atmosphere created by welcoming staff. Music and singing sessions on Sunday evenings weekly. Good price range: £1.90 - £2.40.No jukebox etc but Sky tv in lounge area for those who can lip read.

The Barracks

Very pleasant Victorial building with a large selection of good beers at sensible prices.  Regular food venue at dinner times.  Pleasant outside area for all year round smokers and fresh air fans in summer. Close to Hillsborough football ground, Owlerton Stadium and Hillsborough College.

The Gardeners Rest

Good pub with great landlord Eddy and landlady Pat and home of the Sheffield Brewery. Full range of Sheffield Brewery beers and a good selection of other beers. 

Music Friday and Saturdays and quiz on Sunday.
