This was written after the arms for cash scandal in the mid ‘90s. I remembered a conversation I had with Joan Maynard one of the Sheffield MPs back in the late ‘70s in the House of Commons. Joan felt the building had a corrupting influence on the members; especially the working class MPs. She suggested we should knock it down and start again with a building in tune with the public. It is written in the Key of C Major and is an attempt to write a song in a blues style.

This old house it ruins lives
and this old house it feeds on lies
This old house goes on and on
How I wish this old house was gone

Lib-Lab- Tory there all the same
They feather their nests in the people’s name
This old house goes on and on
How I wish this old house was gone (repeat every second verse)

This old house is profit driven
Come back Guy Foulkes all’s forgiven
This old house goes on and on
How I wish this old house was gone

They're selling arms whilst they sell you lies
They would sell your kids that’s free enterprise
This old house goes on and on
How I wish this old house was gone (repeat)

This old house is past its prime
Lets close it down not Grimethorpe mine
This old house goes on and on
How I wish this old house was gone

Black Rod knocking in the name of the crown
Take your stick and knock this old house down
This old house goes on and on
and on and on and on and on and on
How I wish this old house was gone (repeat)
